LifeWise achieves 94 % waste volume reduction with Mil-tek baler and reduces manual handling significantly

LifeWise, a prominent company specializing in ultra-premium pet food for dogs and cats, has significantly improved its waste management with Mil-tek’s help.

Previously, the company stored and handled up to 60 wool bales of cardboard and plastics weekly, creating clutter and space issues. By investing in a A509 Mil-tek baler, they have reduced the volume of waste to just 1 bale every two days. This change translates to a 94.17% reduction in waste volume, resulting in clearer premises and more efficient operations.

“The baler works like a dream”

“The baler works like a dream,” says Operations Manager Melissa Pleaner. It has made waste handling much easier and more efficient at LifeWise. Hear her explain their case story in this video.

Doubling production annually – Increased waste volumes

Over the past years, LifeWise has built a significant market presence within Australia and expanded their reach to Japan and Hong Kong. As their business has grown, their production has doubled every year, leading to increased waste volumes.

Manual handling of up to 60 wool bales a week

Previously, LifeWise managed their waste manually, placing plastics and cardboard into wool bales by hand. This labor-intensive process involved squashing the materials manually and moving the bales outside for collection by truck every other week. At times, they handled up to 60 wool bales in a single week, creating a cluttered and chaotic work environment. Aisles were often blocked, and the dispatch area was congested with bales, making operations cumbersome and inefficient.

Baler transforms operations: Better space utilization and cleared dispatch area

LifeWise partnered with Mil-tek to integrate a baler into their waste management process – an A509 – marking a turning point for the company:

  • The baler allows them to compact waste into bales more compactly.
  • The frequency of handling and the physical effort involved is reduced.
  • Instead of managing up to 60 wool bales a week manually, they now bale waste once every two days.
  • The baler has saved them a lot of time!
  • The clear access ways and reduced clutter significantly decreases the risk of accidents.
  • Crucial space is now freed up within the dispatch area.

Compacting power: One bale from baler equals volume of 30 wool bales!

Remarkably, one bale produced by the baler equates to the volume of 30 wool bales, making both plastic and cardboard waste much easier to manage. The bales can now be stacked neatly outside, freeing up valuable space inside the facility.

Another impressive example of the baler’s efficiency was when LifeWise compacted 107 big bags into a single bale. The space-saving impact of this process is astounding, highlighting the baler’s capability to handle large volumes of waste effectively.

Consistent, concise, and safe waste handling solution

The baler has proven to be a very safe machine to operate, with safeguards in place to prevent accidental misuse.

The transformation has been nothing short of a dream, providing LifeWise with a consistent, concise, and safe waste handling solution. The company now enjoys a clutter-free workspace, streamlined operations, and a significant reduction in manual labor, all thanks to the innovative baler from Mil-tek.
